trust the dust

poem n/a

the dust is trussed
into your sinewy frame

i can't imagine
you running
without the flared nostrils
and every vein bulging
beneath your
taught skin

because I
have found
dust on the treadmill
and in Sylvia's oven
and
on the floor
of our broom closet

and right now
it's in my
blood

As consumers, we are the prey of our own desires.

Okay, so these are the magazine covers that have lured me into buying magazines I didn't really want. Soft core porn. Well, I got something out of it. The Runners World magazines always get me when I'm waiting for a flight in airports. At least, there are good fitness tips in there. The first that ever got me was a young Leonardo DiCaprio on the cover of Ent. Weekly for Romeo and Juliet. Ahhhhh. Okay, here are the young men. Go.

no perhaps not wacko
maybe yes
well definitely
it's beside the point really
isn't it
so much is so much more important
like being lured into a broom closet and raped
maybe that's a better analogy
maybe that's a better cheese danish
no more sausages mom, please
maybe animals are more stable
maybe your isotopes aren't
maybe rats deserve more credit
maybe you've already said it

Onychophora

VELVET WORMS

I thought it would be a good idea to make another wildlife entry, since I mentioned this one in a poem recently. Velvet Worms, which are the occupants of the phylum Onychophora, are one of my favorite animals. Why? Shit, good question. I have to admit to having a very visceral aesthetic response to wildlife. Those things that would seem loathsome or disgusting to others, those things that remind one of prehistory and primordial Earth, they seem to grip my psyche.

The Velvet Worms are found mostly in moist humid forest habitats in tropical, subtropical, and temperate regions...mostly in the Southern Hemisphere. They are all carnivorous, and subdue their prey (small invertebrates) with a sticky white resin which they release from appendages near the head, known as oral papillae. They are not true worms, in that they have legs, which end in small chitinous claws. Their skin is covered with small bumps that contain sub dermal chitinous scales which give them a velvety texture and water repellent qualities. They are mostly live bearing, and the female is inseminated when the male passes his sperm packet, the spermatophore, into the female's genital opening with either his legs or facial appendages.

Shit, that was dry, well whatever. Enjoy the pictures.

Poem Poem Poem

BURN poem

they burned the playground
last night
they burned the playground
clean
cleansed
new space
they burned the playground
slides and swings
melted charred
black coal rubble
they burned the playground
and
the screams of children
wrapped around
the branches of trees
soaked into the soil
burned my nostrils
rang in the bottoms
of my ears
like echoes in a well
voices and water drops
wiped the color from my eyes
clean cleansed
chloroformed breath
they burned the playground
and
I am
clean
singed
free

They burned it all
ropes rubber metal poles
children dogs trees
and earth
they burned it all
and
I
am
free

perhaps poem

Your words
are prey
and i am

a spider

I can only
wrap them
in silk

and hope

that i can
figure out
how I may

digest them

for now
i have them
between my legs

wriggling

No?

perhaps
your words
then
are parasites

perhaps
i am
a hapless
dog

perhaps
your words
are rasping
chiggers

perhaps
i am
a fat clueless
cub scout

scratching
pawing
biting
clawing

at your words

perhaps

No Poetry and England's Dreaming

poem vagina

i was feeling
insecure
so i crawled inside of
your vagina
perfect temperature
vagina
and pearly white pill bugs
vagina
and violet velvet worms
vagina
each commented on
how perfect the temperature
and perfect the aroma
and perfect the decor
vagina
and i crawled
deeper and deeper

inside

and made a nest
of old bubble gum wrappers
and the shed skins
of imperious newts
and you forgot about

me

while i lived inside of
you

Isopoda, I suppose so.

GIANT ISOPODS

People say to me, they say, "Shai, what the fuck is that thing?", when they see my avatar. Well, friends, that is the Deep Sea or Giant Isopod (Bathynomus giganteus). There seems to be a bit of a following growing for them in the net, as evidenced by this album, a tribute to them. Bathynomus is a deep benthic (bottom dwelling) carnivorous scavenger, which is found mostly in the colder seas of the North Atlantic.

Isopods are crustaceans that live in marine, aquatic, and terrestrial habitats. The best known Isopods are the terrestrial Pill Bugs, aka Roly Polies, Sow Bugs, and Wood Lice. Those of you who spend time near the shore may have also noticed the Sea Lice (or Sea Roaches) that scurry upon dock pilings and jetty rocks. They are, all of them, gill breathers, even the terrestrial varieties (which keep a chamber of water where their gills are housed).

Anyways, Giant Isopods are fucking awesome, because they're one of those animals that looks as if it were designed for cinema rather than the product of nature. Well, enjoy the pictures.

THAT'S RIGHT BITCH, I WROTE ANOTHER POEM

poem 13

I looked inside a fallen log
and there there there
were 3 rows of perfect white baby teeth
digging into the soft wet wood
i reached and pulled
scratching my clumsy fingers
on their sharp edges
filling the log with blood

meanwhile kittens sniffed daffodils in the glen

you danced with the swans
and i petted the damp greasy fur
of squeaking rats
their delicate paws
and curved yellow claws
their aquiline jaws
all ripping the flesh
from my legs

A Poem For Sypha Nadon

A Futile Exercise in Poetry

You've gotta be dedicated to your work.

Stevie Wonder, why did you sell your song to Sunkist?

Why don't you return my phone calls?
Why don't you answer my letters my emails the words I scratch in your bathroom mirrors?

I used to think you were a monster, a huge looming behemoth leviathan tiamat beast of the deep.
Now I know,
that you're a little porcelain ballerina,
sitting on my mother's mantle place,
a little porcelain ballerina,
with a mean dirty mouth.
You're pretty so pretty so come and dance with me...

so that

Poems inspired by Inanimate Blocks of Wood or JW Veldhoen (Originally posted on Dennis Cooper's Blog)

poem 11

Reading your words makes me anxious and subcutaneously aroused
in some way I don't comprehend like a child reading some forbidden text,
something the adults don't want me to know
but your expressions speak to me
through half intelligible tongues in apocrypha.

I remember when I used to sit in my uncle's sitting room
and listen to my father and aunts and uncles and grandmother speak Spanish
and I was so enthralled and frightened and exasperated and transfixed

and severed octopus tentacles and old stuffed owls
and bowls of my aunt's chile verde con huevo filled the room
with their aromatic stench and plastic bubble wrap
just out of reach each bubble waiting to be popped

and every thing in that sitting room smelled like coffee.
How am I supposed to tell you I love you
when I don't speak your language.

The ants crawling on my skin don't bother me much.
Shit, maybe it's just the 3 pots of coffee.
Thank you.

poem 14

I know
that I'm not
worthy of you
but the
hard knots
on my head
recall the knuckles
that wrote
those words
and I
touched greatness
or it
touched me
and I
new beauty

and also
you said
my name

once

at last I'd die empty

you'd be my trampoline

poem for _____.

You never talk to me in public anymore.
I miss who we were to other people,
but you want to be taken seriously
by the boys on the docks.

Meanwhile in the backyard...
you smile at me over sweating bottles of lager,
and dogs wombats caribous
the sub-imagos of mayflies
circle over the pond.

And we're happy in private.

Wall Paper (March Ed.)

So I don't read this magazine, but I was walking through a coffee shop last week and there it was...that boy looking up at me, or something. I saw that cover, and it ended up coming home with me. Honest though, I just borrowed it until I could scan the pics of this gorgeous gorgeous boy. Honest! Anyways, enjoy.

Cephalopods

Just for the sake of posting something here, here are some pictures of cephalopods. Since we've been discussing being eaten by octopi after death on Dennis Cooper's Blog.
Here are some Octopods in the genus Grimpotuethis, the Dumbo Octopi.
