A Place To Bury Strangers

I Know I'll See You

Okay, so what majorly pisses me off about A PLACE TO BURY STRANGERS, from Brooklyn, is that this is the kind of sound I was thinking about putting together in a band myself. It was like, "Fuck, someone else figured it out better than I could have!!!". They have this amazing mix of shoegaze hazy, goth dark vocals, and postpunk style that makes my dick hurt from being erect too long. Oh sighhh.

Interview with A Place to Bury Strangers from DeathRockStar.com (Click here to read whole interview)

How did you get the name?

Oliver: It is all a crazy story that I do not wish to tell anymore. Maybe someone else somewhere has it down on video?

Some people made a comparison about APTBS to The Jesus and Mary Chain, how about your own opinions?

Jono: They’re an influence obviously. We have noisy guitars and a similar vocal sound but I think that’s where the similarities end. I think this comparison comes from a somewhat idealized view. JAMC songs are more melodic. Our sound is much more aggressive, if JAMC had just released one record, maybe I could understand it a bit more.

Latest records you just buy? And what do you think about it?

Oliver: The most recent records are all old records, some from garage sales and other super cheap sources. I got a huge stack of 45’s the archies, music explosion, shangri-la’s ++ recently for 50 cents a piece the other day. All recent music I hear is from the internet or from friends bands...

A Video from the HORRORS latest album

THE HORRORS - Sea Within a Sea

THE HORRORS Website

The Horrors have left behind some of their funereal pretensions and 60's Garage Rock sound for something more ambitious. I think this sort of dark hazy JAMC direction has more potential for a really amazing sound some day... although I did love them from first sight/listen (outfits and sound). These boys are really amazing!

the gradual end of nature

when one studies the history of ecology
one comes to the conclusion that progressively
we see less and less of what was once seen
of the wild
each generation sees fewer birds than the last
hears fewer songs in the forest
sees fewer flowers
hears fewer less intense song
and buzz and insect din

each generation is ignorant of the intensity
experienced by the last one
so that the smallest victories
feel monumental
yet they cannot know what once was
because they have no way to
they havent asked
and so each generation lowers their expectations
unknowingly
of what life in the wild might be
the intensity of song
and color and profusion

it is only by reading the naturalist
experience
of the past
that they could come to know
but the great sadness of such knowledge
keeps us from even trying

to know how the sound of and
eastern forest at dawn
would have deafened you
and the flocks of birds
would have blackened the sky
to make you tremble

..........

i wonder
if men love now as they did
in such lost times?
would it destroy you to know
such a loss
so much that you could not bear to live?
has love
over time become less
beautiful and intense?
am i even capable now...
is all of this now artifice?
as in the past is was
perhaps vast and natural and
the expanse of it would have made you tremble
just to be in its vicinity?
is the love i feel
the love i have poured onto boys
the love i sponge from bucket on your skin...
a paltry pitiable thing?
compared to antediluvian rights
of love
the love men felt for each other
then?
am i capable of that
as they were?

..........

if you knew what we had lost
would you be able to keep going?

..........

flocks of passenger pigeons once spread as far as one could see when they passed. they were quite possibly the most numerous vertebrate land animal on the planet. now, there are none, because of us.

once the flocks of millions had reached a critically low point, the females stopped brooding their eggs. you see, they needed enormous colonies to reproduce and feel safe from predators. once they had reached the low number, they stopped breeding in the wild, and that was the end. we had simply killed to many of them, and they gave up.

An Invitation to Cuddle to the Author Joseph Mills and other Gruff Handshakes

poem joe love song

Joseph

My tongue, your cheeks,
amazing how
saliva speaks,
grazing cows,ruminant freaks.

Cuddle kittens
your body next to mine is death
your fluids suck my breath
from
little
spittle
on top of griddles
cooking stewing
anal chewing
joe mills what
joe mills what
joe mills how much of my flesh
is it going to take?

some one told me this is a French idea but i don't believe my own body some times and your gruff manly handshake is a lie

your rough stubble is so sly

strange what they turn love into
how dogs and cats
wooly mittens cuddle kittens
who told you love was so
ahhhhh the breath
what release in pain
what an acid rain
this is what men do
(the cat has a barbed penis, after all)

Strike me down
strike me down with all of your hatred
and your journey to the dark side
will be COMPLETE
COMPLETE COMPLETE
Complete me joe
kill me and make me know

rats rats rats rats rats
rats rats rats rats
rats rats rats
rats rats
rats
they know what love is

poem oliver one last time

Dennis,

He is a boy of many
spells
and devices
however
we don't care what you say
because
we pretend
that we feel like being
impaled and lubricated
as
the slaves of hummingbirds
we're used to their claws
now
even though
the bamboo said,
"i don't care..."
the panda answered,
"it doesn't matter, I'm going to eat you anyways."
and thus
the poet is a rapist
even in shreds
in his

death
throws
