Last week marked the 41st anniversary of the Misfits' debut full-length album, WALK AMONG US. Described by journalist Ned Raggett as "50's/60's melodies run through a punk/metal meatgrinder," Glenn Danzig's juggernaut was undoubtedly one of the most important bands to come out of the American punk movement. Whether they knew it or not, the Misfits emulated the spirit of Black Sabbath by combining heavy music with macabre themes, creating an image that gave them an immediate (and loyal) following. Perhaps in an effort to live up to their ghoulish persona, the band was arrested in New Orleans a few months later for attempting to dig up the remains of Voodoo priestess Marie Laveau! Sadly, due to rampant infighting, the band parted ways the following year.
